E6000 Glue [found commonly at Michael's
Craft Store] *HINT: This is the "only" glue that
will work and prevent the tea cup and saucer from coming apart!
Gorilla Glue is the only other glue but it is very messy and
visible.
A Dremel
Dremel Silicon Carbide Grinding Stone
Small bowls, Heavy Soup Can
1
Using
the Dremel with the Carbide Grinding Stone, rough up
the bottom of the teacup around the ridge of the bottom
circle. Handle carefully.
2
Using
the Dremel with the Carbide Grinding Stone, rough up
the topside of the saucer inside the inner cup circle. Handle
carefully.
3
Turn the teacup upside down. You
may need to use small bowls or something similar to rest the saucer
and the teacup on so they sit flat--not on a tilt. The glue needs to
settle flat. Place some E6000 glue on the roughed area of the
saucer topside and the teacup bottom ring. Let dry to
a slight skin--approximately 3-4 minutes.
4
Place the teacup on the topside
of the saucer, lining it up in the middle. Press firmly but
carefully so the 2 glued pieces come together. Place on a flat
surface. Place a soup can or something as heavy on the top of the
teacup so there is a bit of pressure. Let dry as per the
instructions on the E6000 tube of glue.
5
AFTER GLUE DRIES--Use the
Dremel with the Carbide Grinding Stone, and rough up
the bottom of the saucer inside the inner
circle. Handle carefully both pieces carefully as to not pull
apart the teacup from the saucer. The E6000 glue takes
several days to "set".
6
Using
the Dremel with the Carbide Grinding Stone, rough up
the flat side of the 1/2" copper end cap.
7
Place the teacup assembly upside down,
again, using a bowl if needed to allow the teacup to sit flat. Place
some E6000 glue on the roughed up area of the bottom of the
saucer.
8
Now take the 1/2" copper end cap
and place some glue on the roughed up bottom. Let the glue dry to a
slight skin--approximately 3-4 minutes.
9
Place the 1/2" copper end cap
with the glue upside down onto the bottom of the saucer, centering
it in the inner circle so that the glue comes together.
10
After this step, you now have a complete
teacup bird
feeder assembly. You must let the glue CURE as per the E6000
tube of glue instructions. This may take several days.
11
Once the teacup assembly is dried and
cured, it is ready to go on the 1/2" copper piping.
12
The completed assembly can now be placed
on the 1/2" copper piping. 3 different heights looks the
best. The copper piping can be placed in the ground
by using a rubber mallet to bang it into soil and then using wood
shims to secure the piping and to "level" it.
